Thomas Matthew Timber is part of the Thomas Matthew family, Poole's trusted name in bespoke kitchens and fine furniture. We bring the same exacting standards we apply to our finished pieces to every length of timber we supply.

Every order is machined in our Poole workshop on an iTECH Rapid 520 surface planer and iTECH TH 410S thicknesser, both running spiral cutter blocks — the finish they leave is noticeably cleaner than conventional blades, with minimal tear-out even on wild grain. We source only prime-grade hardwoods and joinery-grade softwoods, so your timber arrives at the exact dimensions you specified — ready to use.

Spiral-Block Machining Planed on iTECH spiral cutter blocks for a glass-smooth finish with minimal tear-out — sizes guaranteed to ±0.5mm, straight and true.

Delivery is calculated automatically from the longest piece in your order and its total weight — your exact charge shows live as you build your cut list, and includes secure packing. Long or heavy orders travel by pallet or dedicated freight.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does PAR (planed all round) actually mean?
PAR means every face and edge of the board has been machined smooth, flat and square — no rough-sawn surfaces. The dimensions you enter are the finished sizes you'll receive, accurate to around ±0.5mm, so your timber arrives ready to use.
Which timbers can I use outdoors?
Look for the green "Interior & exterior" badge on each species — oak, sapele, Accoya, Douglas fir, western red cedar and larch are all naturally suited to outdoor use. Tulipwood, beech, ash and walnut are interior-only, and redwood works outdoors if properly treated. Not sure for your project? Just call or email us before ordering.
Can I order just one piece?
Yes — there's no minimum quantity, just a £50 minimum order value. One board or a hundred, every piece is machined to your exact sizes.
How long will my order take?
Your timber is machined to order in our Poole workshop — typically 5–10 working days from order to dispatch or collection. You'll get tracking details as soon as it ships, and collection customers get an email when it's ready.
What if my timber arrives damaged?
Inspect your order on arrival and contact us within 48 hours with photos — we'll repair, replace or refund anything damaged in transit, faulty or incorrect, and cover the return carriage if it's our responsibility. Full details in our Returns & Refunds policy.
